Free the Children

How's your fundraiser going at your school? Credenda students are trying to raise money for this wonderful charity to build schools and community resources. Students have tons of ideas of how to raise money. If you need more ideas check out this site, http://www.fundraising-ideas.org/DIY/. It's so tragic what's going on in those countries. Children are working way harder then they should. Some of the children work harder then adults in Canada do. Can you imagine how ruined their tiny bodies must be. Thousands are living in poverty. Those children deserve so much. Compared to us they have so little while we're sitting here living the life of Ryley. We think we have it hard, but we don't take the time to think about what their going through.

Credenda students have also come up with the idea of having an online auction. Students can post things on a site that's been made and then bids can be placed. Each school will set their own goal of how much money they want to raise. If you do raise money you can mail a cheque to Credenda.

In order to get the money from you to the charity we're asking to have a cheque wrote addressed to Credenda Virtual High school Charity.
You can send them to:

Five Minutes for Free The Children Friday

Thank-you for taking five minutes for a great cause! How is the fund raising at your school going? Have you begun any initiatives? Do you need ideas for fund raising? Check out this link: 101 Fund Raising Ideas!

To get inspired check out some videos on and podcasts of Free the Children in the media: Free the Children Media Room.

Check out this news story on the U.N. Convention on the Rights of a Child and find out why Somalia and the United States are the only two countries NOT in favour of the treaty. Teachers- this is a great opportunity to talk about bias in the media and research skills that help us become conscious consumers of media.

We really want to see initiatives started at your school! It could be as simple as a penny drive or vow of silence! We want to hear what you are doing! Share your stories by emailing: credendafreethechildren@gmail.com.

Thanks for your participation! We look forward to hearing from you!

What Free The Children Is, and What we're planning on doing

This year Credenda students have decided to join together and help children in some of the poorest regions of the world. We are doing this through Free the Children, a charity that improves the lives of chldren in third world countries by building schools, medical clinics, clean water supplies, and by creating and teaching alternate sources of income for to their parents, praticularily mothers. All of these efforts allow children in countries like Sri Lanka, China, Sierra Leone, and Kenya to be freed from child labour, and have a happier, healthier life. Right now the Credenda Free the Children team is working on a School vs. School challenge. The school that raises the most money wins a pizza party, so get involved and talk to the representative for your school about ways to raise money. If your school doesn't have a representative yet, think about getting involved and becoming one yourself! (email credendafreethechildren@gmail.com to become a member if you're not already) If you take school from home e-mail the Credenda free the children team for details about what we're doing for home e-learners! The School vs. School challenge will be from March 10th to May 10th.

We are also doing a online auction, From May 11th till the 15th, so if you have anything you can donate that's still in good condition like old electronics, Movies, CD's, Children's items (strollers, cribs, toys, etc.) or if you know anyone or any buisnesses that will donate items email the Credenda free the children team (credendafreethechildren@gmail.com)! All items need to be in by Monday May 6th in order for it to be included in the auction. More details will be in our coming up blogs!

Thanks!Credenda Free the Children Team

ps. if you're interested in joining the Free the Children team we meet for 10-20 minutes on Tuesdays at either 12:45 or 2:45 depending on what works best for the team! E-mail us and we'll give you more details!
