What Can You Do?
What can you contribute? Get creative! Do you love to paint? Draw? Are you excellent at carpentry? Jewelry maker? Contribute something you have made! Or, how about your time? Donate hours of service in your community (i.e. evening of babysitting, cutting grass, dog walking, etc.). Remember that board game that you got last Christmas that is still in the packaging- maybe someone else is looking for one just like it! Can't find anything? Hit up some local businesses! Tell them what you cause is (you can use the poster your teacher sent out) and ask them for their help through a donation.
Check out this video for a reminder of what we are raising funds for!
Good luck and happy hunting!

Of Dates, Donations & Earth
Get ready to bring in your donations for Free The Children!
Please remember that all cheque’s donated to the CVHS Charity should be sent to the following address:
PO Box,
Don’t have any money to donate? Then send in some of your most valuable items that you would like to be used in the upcoming Auction which begins May 20th – June 3rd!
We’ll be very pleased with which ever you would like to send, money/items!
Remember the causes which this charity is funding for as you read this blog! Do your very best to live not only for your own sake, but for the generations to come!
Another thing to note is that the School vs. School challenge is nearing its end, which will be on May 8th.
So, as we all know from yesterday’s Assembly, the 22th was the day of celebration for our home, the Earth. Nancy gave us a wonderful speech about some of the precautions that we face due to our neglection to the Earth. We sure have messed up as a society, have we?
Our Earth is a platform for all living organisms as we know it. There would be no such thing as the Free The Children Charity without the Earth. Without that platform, there is nothing which holds us in place. What brings us life is the Earth, and what do we bring it? We bring upon devastation, drought and greed as a society. There is always room for change in everything; we must begin the change now before it’s too late. We will all share the same precarious fate if we continue with this negligence.
I’ve also heard of some people who don’t have any clue as to knowing what Earth Day is. Earth Day is a day of awareness, and if that day isn’t keeping up to it’s goal, then shouldn’t it just be cancelled? I’ve heard countless people ask that as well, if they should cancel Earth Day or not. Earth Day is not the problem; we’re the problem for not being aware. Please, spread the word about the poverty and the devastation in the world, don’t deceive yourself into thinking the day after tomorrow will always be shining and filled with light.
If you’re not willing to spread the awareness- prepare for the worst.
The truth is sad, but do not forget optimism. As long as we learn to coexist with one another, we will be fine.
Continue smiling even on the darkest of days. : )
For further info on Earth awareness can be found in the following address: http://earthawareness.com/
There are many steps to advance in true prosperity, this is the first.
And remember, everyday should be treated as Earth day~

What's Your Issue?
Free the Children is a great cause but maybe it's not the one for you. Maybe you love animals, check the volunteer opportunities available at your local animal shelter. This mornings edition of Canada AM featured a story about a woman that opened up her farm to horses that had been abandoned or abused. Her adoption of horses evolved into an adoption of all sorts of farm animals.
Are you passionate about building or architecture? Maybe there is a local building in your community that needs a face lift! Perhaps there is a park or playground that could use a little spring cleaning.
Telemiracle just wrapped, the Terry Fox run is coming up, training for the MS Bike-a-Thon has likely started and the United Way Day of Caring is in the final planning stages. Maybe you like organized events that are fun way to spend a day and give back. Is there a school or community committee that can use your help?
Are you concerned about the environment and the legacy we are leaving for generations to come? Maybe that's your cause! Check out the CBC site One Million Acts of Green and 350.org to see what some of the current environmental issues are.
It doesn't matter what your issue is, what matters is that you care enough to try and make the world a better place. Remember what Ghandi said: "Be the change you want to see in the world".

Share your issue! One lucky student will receive a a copy of the book "The Making of an Activist" by Lekha Singh & Friends afterwards by Craig and Mark Kielburger. Reply to this post with what you are doing and why! Or send us an email @ credendafreethechildren@gmail.com. Remember, you just need to tell us what you are doing and why it's important to you! Good luck!
Keep on keeping on,
The Credenda Free The Children Student Group
PS
Stay tuned for info on our upcoming auction and keep working on raising funds for our school vs school challenge. A big thank-you to Tom German and the other teachers that are helping with the Credenda Free the Children auction. Start thinking abuot your donation today!

Free the Children
Credenda students have also come up with the idea of having an online auction. Students can post things on a site that's been made and then bids can be placed. Each school will set their own goal of how much money they want to raise. If you do raise money you can mail a cheque to Credenda.
In order to get the money from you to the charity we're asking to have a cheque wrote addressed to Credenda Virtual High school Charity.
You can send them to:

Five Minutes for Free The Children Friday
To get inspired check out some videos on and podcasts of Free the Children in the media: Free the Children Media Room.
Check out this news story on the U.N. Convention on the Rights of a Child and find out why Somalia and the United States are the only two countries NOT in favour of the treaty. Teachers- this is a great opportunity to talk about bias in the media and research skills that help us become conscious consumers of media.
We really want to see initiatives started at your school! It could be as simple as a penny drive or vow of silence! We want to hear what you are doing! Share your stories by emailing: credendafreethechildren@gmail.
Thanks for your participation! We look forward to hearing from you!

What Free The Children Is, and What we're planning on doing

This year Credenda students have decided to join together and help children in some of the poorest regions of the world. We are doing this through Free the Children, a charity that improves the lives of chldren in third world countries by building schools, medical clinics, clean water supplies, and by creating and teaching alternate sources of income for to their parents, praticularily mothers. All of these efforts allow children in countries like Sri Lanka, China, Sierra Leone, and Kenya to be freed from child labour, and have a happier, healthier life. Right now the Credenda Free the Children team is working on a School vs. School challenge. The school that raises the most money wins a pizza party, so get involved and talk to the representative for your school about ways to raise money. If your school doesn't have a representative yet, think about getting involved and becoming one yourself! (email credendafreethechildren@gmail.com to become a member if you're not already) If you take school from home e-mail the Credenda free the children team for details about what we're doing for home e-learners! The School vs. School challenge will be from March 10th to May 10th.
We are also doing a online auction, From May 11th till the 15th, so if you have anything you can donate that's still in good condition like old electronics, Movies, CD's, Children's items (strollers, cribs, toys, etc.) or if you know anyone or any buisnesses that will donate items email the Credenda free the children team (credendafreethechildren@gmail.com)! All items need to be in by Monday May 6th in order for it to be included in the auction. More details will be in our coming up blogs!
Thanks!Credenda Free the Children Team
